My Vision is Blurry Close Up Submitted by Atlanta Vision Cataract and Laser Center on October 20, 2016

Have you noticed that you have trouble reading the menus at dinner or newspaper in the morning? Many people have the question of why their vision is so blurry close up. This is due to farsightedness, an eye disorder that causes you to be able to see better far away than close up. Atlanta Vision Cataract & Laser Center Center is extremely knowledgeable about this disorder and can provide you with optometry solutions to help you get your vision crystal clear.

Why Does This Happen?

Vision being blurry close up is caused by an eye disorder called farsightedness(hyperopia). This is because the eye focuses better on images that are far away rather than close up. Farsightedness is a refractive error meaning that light rays bend incorrectly in your eye to transmit images to the brain.  Ideally, the cornea and lens, the two focusing structures in the eye, focus images directly on the surface of the retina. If the eye is too short, as with farsightedness, the image is focused behind the retina. This causes the vision and images seen to be blurred. Also, farsightedness can be caused by genetics and is often inherited. It is also often present at birth and continues throughout a person’s life.

Why Is It Called “Farsightedness?”

Many people do not understand why it is called nearsightedness and farsightedness. It seems logical to switch the two eye diseases until you understand where the name comes from. In farsightedness, you can see far away and not close up because your eye is too short. Because you can see far away, doctors refer to this as being farsighted, so the name actually does make sense. Many people can squint to see close up.  However, for the most part, especially as you age, squinting does not do the job. Atlanta Vision Cataract & Laser Center Center can offer a number of solutions including glasses, contacts, and LASIK surgery.

Solutions

Glasses: These include bifocals, trifocals, and standard reading glasses. Glasses are an easy fix to be able to read whatever your want and see clearly again! Atlanta Vision Cataract & Laser Center Clinic offers many different brands and types of glasses, so you can correct your vision while still being stylish.

Contacts: There are many different brands of contact lenses that help correct farsightedness. You can add a focal lens to your everyday contacts to improve your reading sight that are comparable to reading glasses. Also, if you only have farsightedness in one eye we can fit you with monovision contacts that will specify your prescription to only the impacted eye.

LASIK Surgery: LASIK is a painless, effective way to correct vision. Atlanta Vision Cataract & Laser Center Center has experienced trained LASIK surgeons to preform the successful procedure. LASIK vision correction is the most efficient, fastest way to achieve 20/20 vision and improve your farsightedness. Atlanta Vision Cataract & Laser Center Center is one of the few offices that has new technology called Zytopic 100, which offers even more advanced, high definition LASIK surgery.
