LASIK
LASIK is a refractive surgery that corrects the curvature of your cornea for sharp vision. The cornea is the clear dome at the front of your eye, and a misshapen cornea causes refractive errors, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. LASIK is a popular laser vision correction procedure that has helped millions of people worldwide achieve better eyesight and eliminate the need for contact lenses or prescription eyeglasses.
Our ophthalmologists at Atlanta Vision Laser and Cataract Center can determine if LASIK is the best way to improve your vision with a comprehensive eye exam and review of your medical history and lifestyle.
Cataracts
Cataracts are one of the leading causes of blindness, but they are very curable through cataract surgery. This eye disease causes proteins withing the natural eye lens to clump together, creating an opaque appearance and leading to blurry vision, double vision and other symptoms. As the cataract progresses, your visual acuity worsens and can increase your risk of falling and suffering an injury.
Cataract surgery is one of the most successful procedures. One of our eye surgeons will expertly remove the clouded lens and replace it with an intraocular lens (IOL). Premium IOLs are available to correct your vision, so you no longer have to depend on glasses or contact lenses. Our ophthalmologists offer a limbal relaxing incision technique that can improve astigmatism during your cataract surgery.
Keratoconus
Keratoconus weakens the structure of your cornea, causing it to thin and bulge out like a cone. This change in corneal shape distorts your vision and often starts during puberty and progresses for up to 20 years. While early keratoconus may be managed with glasses, rigid gas permeable contact lenses and other vision correction measures, most patients need more extensive treatment as they age.
Corneal collagen cross-linking is an innovative treatment that has helped slow or halt keratoconus progression for many people, in turn precluding the need for corneal transplant. Our skilled eye doctors can diagnose and treat keratoconus.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a common and progressive eye disease characterized by high intraocular eye pressure (IOP). This rise in IOP may be gradual or sudden and damages the optic nerve, which is responsible for sending messages to your brain to transform light into images. Glaucoma is a progressive disease that requires ongoing management with an ophthalmologist to limit vision loss.
This group of eye diseases has two primary forms: open-angle glaucoma and closed-angle glaucoma. Regular dilated eye exams and treatment at Atlanta Vision Laser and Cataract Center are essential to maintaining your vision.
Vision Insurance
Eyecare services covered under your vision insurance plan depend on your policy. Most basic vision plans offer coverage for preventive eye care, such as annual eye exams and prescription eyewear up to a certain dollar amount. You can contact your insurance provider to discuss your plan benefits before your appointment at Atlanta Vision Laser and Cataract Center. If the treatment or procedure you need is not included under your vision insurance, you can use funds from a flexible spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA) to cover out-of-pocket expenses.
